Tom Gabbard has been President of Blumenthal Performing Arts since 2003. The Blumenthal’s 110 employees manage six theaters in Charlotte, hosting over 1,000 performances annually, as well as extensive education and enrichment programs. The Blumenthal during his tenure has become one of the Top 10 markets for touring Broadway shows in North America. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the Broadway League from 1999-2009, and has been a voter for Broadway’s Tony Awards since 1997.
He is a co-producer/investor in dozens of productions for Broadway, Off-Broadway, national tours and London’s West End, including Legally Blonde, 9 to 5, Frost/Nixon, The Color Purple, RED, Matthew Bourne’s Edward Scissorhands and The Car Man, Ragtime and West Side Story. Currently he is producing the New York run and national tour of TRACES, as well as the Broadway production of The Mountaintop. He received Tony Awards as a co-producer of Monty Python’s Spamalot, Thoroughly Modern Millie, La Cage aux Folles and RED.
Tom serves on the Investment Committee of the Independent Presenters Network, the Board of Managers of Audience Rewards, and the Finance Committees of the Broadway League and the National Alliance for Musical Theater. Previously he served as the Managing Director of Pepperdine University’s Center for the Arts in Malibu, the Executive Director of the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities in Denver, and the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts in Green Bay.
He holds an MBA in Arts Management from Golden Gate University, as well as a BA in Music Performance from Pepperdine University where he also attended Law School. He has been a lecturer in arts management at Davidson College.
