Charlotte, NC – Hailed by The New York Times as being “rich with fine perfomers these days, both established and rising stars,” ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER comes to the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center’s Knight Theater Feb. 9 – 14, 2010. Led by acclaimed Artistic Director Judith Jamison, the Company will present a diverse repertory of revered classics, recent favorites, exciting premieres and dramatic new productions.

Founded in 1958 by Alvin Ailey, the troupe is known for its vibrant activity and repertory as well as for Mr. Ailey’s humanist vision. The company of 30 dancers earned its nickname, “Cultural Ambassador to the World” because of its extensive international touring. AAADT has performed for an estimated 23 million people in 71 countries worldwide. Upon every new stage they promote the uniqueness of the African American cultural experience combined with the preservation and enrichment of the American modern dance.
